Place des Vosges

Place des Vosges is the oldest planned square in Paris, and is located in the Marais district.


It is a very popular and festive place for enjoying old Paris. It is an actual square, measuring 140 meters x 140 meters.


The square is planted with mature lindens set in grass and gravel, surrounded by clipped lindens.


Place des Vosges was first program of royal city planning and became the prototype of residential squares for other European cities. Cardinal Richelieu was a short-term resident before he became Cardinal.


The most famous resident was author Victor Hugo, who lived at #6 from 1832-1848, which is now the free museum Maison de Victor Hugo.
