Details

The beautiful Hotel des Deux Continents is located in the St Germain des Prés area, on the Rue Jacob on the left bank of Paris, and takes its name from the significant peace treaty recognizing the United States as an independent country signed on this street on September 5th, 1783, by David Hartley, who was representing the King of England at the time, as well as Benjamin Franklin, John Jay and John Adams. The whole neighborhood was created around the beloved former Abbey of St Germain des Prés, dating back to medieval times. So strong is the sense of community in this area that the generations who have lived in this neighborhood call themselves “Germanopratins” rather than Parisians.

The 6th district is famous for its “literary” cafés such as Les Deux Magots and Café de Flore which were the center of the existentialist movement and a great meeting place throughout the years for famous poets, writers and philosophers. The boulevard St-Germain stretches some two miles between the Sully Bridge, which crosses over to the Île St-Louis, to the Concorde Bridge near the Orsay Museum, leading straight to the Champs-Elysées. You will find plenty of wonderful little antique shops, restaurants, bookstores, art galleries and nightclubs to venture into. The Louvre Museum is just across the river and the Luxembourg Garden nearby will be the perfect setting for a romantic evening stroll.

The Hotel des Deux Continents is a traditional “Haussmann” building with wrought-iron balconies and large windows. The ground floor is an absolute delight. This establishment has succeeded in retaining all the integrity of former years while providing a comfortable and truly inviting environment. The lounge with ageless dark beams bears reminders of both Old and New World with deep leather armchairs, heavy drapes and elegant paintings. The soft lighting brings out the stylish palette of colors and the quiet charm will make you feel as if you are staying at a friend’s house rather than a hotel. The dining area looks fabulous with its beautiful mural depicting a pastoral scene and heavy antique furniture. This is the place where time stands still and one can enjoy a hearty breakfast whilst sharing plans for the day with friends and family or interact with other guests.

The Hotel des Deux Continents boasts 41 large and romantic bedrooms with real character and luxurious marble bathrooms with large mirrors and quality cosmetics. Its decor is a tribute to the famous “Toile de Jouy”, a colorful patterned fabric which was highly prized in the 18th Century. Antique furniture and rich curtains complete this setting and you will feel like royalty staying in any of these rooms which overlook the quiet street or the superbly kept inner courtyard centered on an antique statue and lush plants. Satellite television and Wi-Fi access are one of the modern conveniences available as well as air-conditioning upon request.

Thanks to its experienced staff and welcoming atmosphere, the Hotel des Deux Continents is a charming “pied-a-terre” from which you can discover the intellectual and picturesque Paris.
